Located in the Bernese Oberland, 14 miles southeast of Interlaken, Grindelwald lies in the heart of the famous Jungfrau region. Surrounded by such awesome peaks as the Wetterhorn, Moench, Jungfrau and Eiger (remember Clint Eastwood in "Eiger Sanction"?), it is known as the Valley of the Glaciers. The town itself is small enough to retain its charm and atmosphere, yet large enough to boast excellent restaurants and shops. Apres-ski life is pleasantly informal with plenty of bars and discos. The skiing caters to all abilities and is divided into several area. A day trip to Muerren/Schilthorn (where the James Bond movie "On her Majesty's Secret Service" was filmed) by bus offers additional ski opportunities. Excursions to other towns such as Interlaken, Lucerne, Thun, Montreux, Lausanne and Bern by bus or train for sightseeing and shopping are available for non-skiers or those who want to take a day off.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL BELVEDERE: Located near the Jungfrau cog railway station, the Boutique Hotel Belvedere, a member of the Swiss Quality Hotels International, offers a Health Spa including indoor swimming pool, outdoor salt water jacuzzi, Finnish sauna, bio-sauna, Turkish bath, whirlpool and Health and Beauty Therapists. Each room has a balcony offering mountain views: to the Wetterhorn and Prealps in the north and the famous Eiger to the south. The entire hotel is non-smoking except one area which has been designated "Smokers' Bar". The hotel has an ultra-modern boot drying system in its ski room. The Hauser family has been running the hotel since 1906. Their excellent restaurant has been accepted into the exclusive "Chaine des Rotisseurs" for its fine cuisine. A cozy fireplace in the lounge makes the area a great meeting place after skiing. The hotel runs its own private ski bus.
