Explore Chamonix, France & Zermatt, Switzerland July 20 - 31, 2018
Exploring the alpine scenery of Switzerland and the valleys and peaks of Chamonix.
Trip Leader: Penny Pitou
We hike daily from 4-6 hours carrying only day packs. There are 2 guides (depending on total number of participants) and the hikes are selected with the ability and desires of the group in mind. Lifts and ground transportation are included. This is a total immersion into the culture. Staying 5 days in each village allows us to establish friendships with the local people and gives us a sense of belonging. There are opportunities for sightseeing as well. Participants must be in GOOD PHYSICAL CONDITION.

CHAMONIX: Chamonix can undoubtedly claim to be the most dramatically situated of all of Europe's mountain holiday resorts. On the one side of the valley is Mont-Blanc--the highest point in Europe at 15,781 ft--with its attendant glaciers. On the other side, the Aiguilles Rouges chain forms a natural and easily accessible viewing balcony. Glaciers dominate the town and are only held in check by a breathtaking ridge which starts from Mont Blanc's summit and runs as a series of needle sharp towers almost to the outskirts of Chamonix. We will explore both sides of this valley giving us views and terrain that will suit the avid hiker.
ZERMATT: The alpine scenery above Zermatt is perhaps the most breathtaking in all of Switzerland. There are more 4000 meter peaks, including the famous Matterhorn, clustered around its center than any other village in the alps. No automobile traffic whatsoever is allowed in Zermatt. Zermatt has the greatest number and the finest collection of hikes of any place in the alps.
